Cross-boundary travel - West Yorkshire and beyond

This shows where your MCard, West Yorkshire DaySaver or other Metro-issued travel card is valid when you are travelling on buses and trains that cross the county boundary Into neighbouring counties such as North, South and East Yorkshire, Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Derbyshire.

When you board the bus, you will need to show your MCard, West Yorkshire DaySaver or other Metro-issued travel card, and pay the full fare for the part of your journey outside of West Yorkshire.

Cross Boundary travel by bus

Senior and Disabled English National Concessionary Pass holders benefit from free national bus travel throughout England and local travel within West Yorkshire, between 0930 and 2300 Monday to Friday and all day at weekends and public holidays.

MCards, MetroDay, WestYorkshire Day Savers and concessions for Under 16's and 16-19 can travel in West Yorkshire as far as the following destinations:

Cross Boundary travel by train

If your train journey goes beyond West Yorkshire, you’ll need to pay the full fare for the part of the trip outside the area,

If your train journey extends past the West Yorkshire boundary, you must pay the full fare for any travel beyond the area,.unless you can show a valid ticket or proof of a reduced fare for that section.

Young Persons travel outside of West Yorkshire

The National Rail Conditions of Carriage allow Young persons under the age of 16 to travel at half fare on all trains.

For travel outside of West Yorkshire, beyond the last West Yorkshire stopping station, full fare is payable for West Yorkshire Young Persons & 16-18 PhotoCard holders, unless they are in possession of a discounted railcard such as a 16-25 Railcard.
